Alone
How long is it good
to be alone?
Some moments to rest your soul,
to take a breath
before those close get closer.
Â
A few days to walk a mountain side
amongst the grass and stone,
gnarled trees that crouch
against the winds,
a butter carved valley
nursing a sun pricked lake.
Â
Some months alone.
When lives are planned, decisions made,
crossroads met and journeys taken.
When you start along an unknown path
there’s no response.
No one there to care enough.
Â
Or years alone,
when months lose meaning.
Each day merges into the
greyness of the next, until
there comes that day
when the next
never arrives.
